Livecaller gives you control over how strictly to handle spam and unwanted calls. You can choose between three spam protection levels:
- Warn About Spammers: This is the least aggressive setting. When enabled, Livecaller will identify known spam or scam callers and label them as such, but it will not automatically block the calls. Your phone will still ring, but you’ll see a warning (e.g., “Spam Likely” or “Telemarketer”) on the screen. Choose this if you want to be informed of spam calls but prefer to decide yourself whether to answer or ignore.
- Block Top Spammers: This is a middle-ground setting. Livecaller will automatically block calls from the most notorious/high-volume spam numbers, which are the scammers and robocallers that have been reported frequently by the community. Less frequent or uncertain spam calls will still ring through but with a warning. Essentially, Livecaller takes care of the worst offenders (you won’t even be disturbed by them), and warns you about others. This is a good default for many users.
- Block All Spammers: This is the most aggressive spam blocking. Livecaller will automatically block any call that is identified as spam in its database. If a number is flagged as a spam or scam caller by our system, your phone won’t ring at all – you might not even notice the attempt (except possibly a very brief flash or in the call log as a blocked call). This provides maximum peace and quiet from telemarketers and scammers. However, there’s a small risk of false positives (a legitimate call being flagged incorrectly), so use this if you’re comfortable with the trade-off that you might miss a genuine call that was mistakenly labeled spam.
All these levels still allow calls from your contacts or numbers not flagged as spam to come through normally. They only affect how known spam numbers are treated.
How to Change Your Spam Protection Level
- Open Livecaller: Launch the Livecaller app and tap on Manage Spam Filter.
- Select Protection Level: Tap on the spam protection level you want to use. A checkmark or highlight should indicate your current choice.
- Close the settings: That’s it. Livecaller will now operate at the chosen spam filtering strength. You can change this anytime by revisiting the setting and picking a different level.
Which Level Should You Choose?
It depends on your comfort and how many spam calls you get:
- If you rarely get spam calls or are very cautious about possibly missing calls, start with Warn About Spammers. You’ll be alerted but remain in control of answering.
- If you get some spam daily or weekly and find it annoying, Block Top Spammers is a great option. It cuts out the worst spam calls entirely and should rarely, if ever, block something legitimate.
- If you’re inundated with spam calls or simply don’t want to be bothered by any known spammer, go for Block All Spammers. Just remember to occasionally glance at your voicemail or Recents in case a legitimate call was accidentally flagged (again, rare, but possible).
- You can experiment: try one level for a week, then adjust if you’re still getting too many spam rings or if you worry you might have missed something.
Regardless of level, Livecaller will always identify spam calls in the background. So even on the blocking settings, the app “knows” it was spam – it just may not always notify you. If a call is blocked, you might not see anything during the call, but you can find out after in the Recents tab on your Phone app.
Common Questions:
- If Livecaller blocks a call, can they still leave a voicemail? Yes. Blocking means the phone doesn’t ring for you, but it doesn’t necessarily stop the caller from reaching your voicemail. They’ll hear ringing and may be able to leave a message as if you didn’t answer. If it’s a robocall, often it won’t leave anything coherent. If it’s legitimate, they might leave a voicemail – which you can then review.
- What if a number I actually want to hear from gets marked as spam? If you suspect Livecaller is mislabeling a number (false spam), you have a few options: You can add that number to your iPhone contacts (calls from contacts bypass spam filters). Also, switch to “Warn” level – then at least it will ring and you can choose to answer. And importantly, report it to us as “Not spam” (if Livecaller has a feedback option), or contact support with the details. We strive to minimize false positives.
- How often are spam lists updated? Constantly. Livecaller’s community reports and AI detection are ongoing.
User Tips:
- Report missed spam: If a spam call gets through on “Warn” mode and you had to decline it, make sure you mark it as spam (see reporting article) if it wasn’t already flagged. This improves the system. Conversely, if something was wrongly flagged, correct it. The more feedback, the better the accuracy for everyone.
